From Metal Injection Moulding to Co-Creation

November 24, 2010 – 6:19 pm

While attending the Medica/Compamed event in Düsseldorf, Germany, earlier this month, I happened upon Indo-US MIM Tec Pvt. Ltd. The Bangalore-based company that specialises in metal injection moulding had a stand in the Compamed section, which is dedicated to suppliers of products and services to medical device OEMs. The company had been quite busy explaining to visitors its so-called Co-Creation concept. In a nutshell, it’s about teamwork, says Manoj Kabre, Vice President, Marketing.

“The global manufacturing industry is gaining momentum and attracting new players,” he explains. “It is more and more important for each of us to work very closely with our individual customers to help them succeed. It is no longer an individual company’s success, but a team success,” he stresses.

I confess that I’m a bit fuzzy on the notion of co-creation and how it differs from a collaborative approach, but there is nothing opaque about the company’s expertise in metal injection moulding.

MIM combines the design flexibility of injection moulding with the strength and integrity of wrought metals to achieve cost-effective solutions for the production of complex part geometries. The technique is suited for the manufacture of endoscopic instruments, surgical tools and implants made from alloy steels, stainless steels and exotic metal alloys.

Indo-MIM has successfully positioned itself as a one-stop supplier for precision engineered parts and subassemblies. With a staff of more than 600 people, the company collaborates with customers in more than 30 countries, and counting.
