German Engineering Puts Mumbai-Based Maker of Inhaler Systems on Fast Track

December 10, 2012 – 11:56 pm

Just nine months after placing the order, Jay Precision Products India Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of medical products based in Mumbai, is running an inhaler assembly system developed and built by German company Pfuderer Maschinenbau GmbH (Ludwigsburg, Germany). The devices are fitted with a built-in dose counter, which made the project challenging, according to Pfuderer, because assembly and testing of the tiny parts requires extereme precision.

The requirements profile for the assembly system included reliable testing of the counter and ejection of defective components while maintaining high throughput. “The challenge was to arrange and integrate four test camera stations correctly within a system having a total of 28 stations,” explains Ulrich Traffa of Pfuderer. The machine, which was installed at the Mumbai site in September 2012, currently runs at 60 cycles per minute. Jay Precision Products has already signaled interest in the purchase of more assemblies, according to Pfuderer.

Pfuderer is specialised in developing and building fast-cycling cam-controlled ring and linear transfer systems for automated production. The company was acquired in 2011 by the teamtechnik Group, a supplier of assembly and test systems, which played a key role in securing the contract with Jay Precision Products.
